Regina Bypass Initiative Creates Buzz with Bees, Honey, and Community Involvement
The Regina Bypass has found a creative way to blend environmental sustainability with community spirit, by introducing honeybees along the corridor to support vegetation growth. The bees not only help strengthen native plant life but also produce a sweet by-product: local honey.
In partnership with a local beekeeper, the Regina Bypass has been able to harvest the honey and share it with the community. To make the project even more meaningful, the Bypass engaged children from the YMCA of Regina Daycare to design the label for the honey jars.
“This project is a great example of how small environmental efforts can create big community impact,” said Christophe Martin, General Manager of the Regina Bypass. “By supporting healthy vegetation with bees, we’re building a greener landscape, and by inviting YMCA children to design our honey labels, we’re helping young people feel part of something bigger. It’s about taking care of the environment and strengthening the community around the Bypass.”
YMCA of Regina CEO Steve Compton added “The YMCA is excited and grateful for the opportunity to be involved in this creative community partnership. The children from our childcare centre were “buzzing”, giving their talents, energy and creativity to the honey label artwork and were genuinely excited to participate and learn more about the important role bees play in our environment.”
The Regina Bypass continues to provide safe and efficient roadways but also stands as a model for how large-scale infrastructure projects can prioritize environmental responsibility.
