Regina Bypass Welcomes Ministry of Highways
Saskatchewan Highways Minister Kim Gartner and members of his ministry team recently visited the Regina Bypass office before heading out for a firsthand tour of the Bypass.
The visit created a valuable opportunity to discuss current operations, ongoing maintenance work and the team’s shared commitment to keeping the roadway safe and reliable.
They both shared updates, exchanged ideas and discussed the collaborative approach supporting the Bypass every day.
The tour highlighted several important projects underway across the Regina Bypass.
Stops included the Highway 11 bridge repairs, the temporary box culvert solution on the North Service Road and an innovative pilot project on the Pilot Butte bridge project which implants thermal inlays for the stop bars and directional arrows.
Designed to last seven years, this thermal inlay technology could replace the need for annual repainting.
The visit also reinforced the “one project, one team” attitude established during the Bypass design and construction stage. That same approach continues to guide operations and maintenance today.
It was a productive day of conversation, learning and relationship-building. Most importantly, it was another opportunity to strengthen the partnership helping keep Saskatchewan travellers moving safely forward.
The Regina Bypass continues to provide safe and efficient roadways but also stands as a model for how large-scale infrastructure projects can prioritize environmental responsibility.

BYPASS FACTS:
- We currently employ close to 40 full-time team members
- Our winter fleet is made up of:
- 9 Western Star snowplows
- 2 tractors
- a skid steer and a loader all of which are equipped with blowers and blades.
- agreements in place with 4 local contractors for extra assistance
- have salt/sand and calcium storage at our yard in Emerald Park.
- Summer operations are centered around inspections and maintenance with approximately 5,500 assets which include:
- 38 bridges
- 43 retaining walls
- 480 culverts
- 2,250 streetlights
- 1,500 signs
- In addition to inspections and repairs summer maintenance also includes:
- mowing
- litter picking
- crack sealing
- line marking and
- asphalt repairs
- traffic control for ourselves, contractors and first responders.
- In 2025, our team successfully implemented 785 traffic restrictions with zero incidents, demonstrating our commitment to safety and operational excellence.
