Hwy 1/ Hwy 46 Interchange (Balgonie)
The project design has incorporated roundabouts within the project design, which although a brand new concept to Saskatchewan, are used in many parts of the world offering the benefit of higher intersection capacity, fewer stops, shorter delays, and a general increase in user safety.
Tower Road / Hwy 1 Eastbound On-Ramp
The two lane Highway 1 eastbound on-ramp from Regina will fly over the Regina Bypass Mainline lanes, rather than taking the Mainline lanes up and over the ramp. This will result in a smaller disruption to traffic flows in and out of Regina on the existing Highway 1 during the project build.
Highway 1 West / Regina Bypass
This alternative concept includes changes to the northbound to westbound traffic movements and westbound to westbound lane combinations and more cost effective than other alternatives.
Pavement Design
An innovative technical approach to pavement lifecycle was incorporated into the project: This alternative requires fewer functional overlays over the life of the Operational Term while still meeting performance and hand back requirements: This approach should then reduce the rehabilitation interventions and lead to fewer user delays.
